respect Who Is A Virtuous Seller?

An Internet Merchant Needs Respect, Honesty, Humility

When you sell on the internet, you can be tarred by association.

Even if you never associate with anyone, you are in danger.

Many people see the internet as an open sewer, rotten with schemers and scammers and bandits, plotting to steal your money with every mouse click. Whether this is only occasionally true or even totally unjustified is beside the point. The perception that the internet is a dangerous place is firmly fixed in the American imagination.

If you want buyers to open their wallets to you, you must first earn their trust. How can you do that?

Respect.

Respect your buyers and respect yourself.

Self-respect won’t allow you to offer shoddy products. A respectful merchant will never think in terms of “shearing the sheep” or “fleecing the rubes.”

This isn’t just a slogan and it can’t be faked. Respect – or the lack of it – shows in every aspect of your business.

  • Do you take the time to proof read your copy before posting it?
  • Do you offer a fair return policy and an honest guarantee?
  • Do you make your info products as good as they can be?
  • Do you listen to complaints and criticism with an open mind?

Self-respect demands that we give our best effort. This isn’t perfectionism or an excuse for inaction because our best is never good enough. In fact – it is just the opposite. It is a call to give every customer, every action, every product the attention it deserves, and then to do even better next time.

Showing respect means showing improvement.
