Surefire Success Step 1

Published by at 7:00 am under Product Development

If you want to sell an information product – the first step to success is to define your market. Know who you want to sell it to.

Notice – I did not say that the first step was to design your product. Or research your product. Or write what you love. The very first step is to define your market. Once you know who you are gong to sell to, it is a lot easier to know what to sell. Sell what they are buying!

This removes the first big stumbling block faced by new online entrepreneurs… ‘what should I sell?’ Sell what sells – and sell it to people with a proven track record of buying it!

Bill Myers is fabulously successful with this formula. His formula is not a secret. In fact, he says, it’s simple. Just target buyers who:

  1. Search and shop for products on the internet
  2. Have enough disposable income to pay for your product
  3. Have already shown an interest in your product by buying something like it within the last 6 months

How do you find these ideal buyers?

Obviously, to know what is selling and who is buying takes research. You’ll need to invest some time (and perhaps some money) in discovering research tools and in learning how to use them. Google Suggests is a good starting place. eBay’s Pulse, a ”What’s Hot” list, is another. Find out which videos are getting the most views on You Tube – there’s an RSS feed that will deliver the information to you daily. Look at Amazon Best Sellers Surefire Success Step 1. Before long, you should have a feel for what sells.

Many new marketers make the mistake of wanting to stake out new territory. They assume that “hot” niches are already overcrowded.  They think they’ll be better off with a brand new product. Unfortunately, unless you have a very large advertising budget, a product with no track record is likely to fail. Stick with the winners and use them as your template for success.

Next we’ll look at strategies for reaching your ideal buyer.
